⚠ What your current app is hiding

Other apps show you a snapshot.
Portledger shows you the truth.

A balance that went up isn't the same as a good return. A stock tracker isn't the same as a portfolio tracker. Most apps are built for the easy 20% of your portfolio — and ignore the private, real, and alternative assets where the real wealth is built.

📈 Performance metrics

Your balance went up. But did you outperform?

Most apps show you the ending number. That's not performance — it's arithmetic. Real performance answers the question: did my money work harder than it could have elsewhere?

TWR isolates manager skill from luck of when you invested

All asset classes included — stocks, property, PE, crypto
📐

What is IRR?

Internal Rate of Return weights each cashflow by when it happened. If you invested £10k in January and £50k in November, IRR correctly accounts for the fact that the November money only had one month to work. A simple % change can't do this.

⏱️

What is TWR?

Time-Weighted Return eliminates the distortion caused by the timing and size of contributions. It answers: 'If I had invested £1 at inception, what would it be worth now?' — isolating your portfolio decisions from when you happened to add money.

🏁

Why it matters

Your balance increasing by £12,400 sounds great. But if the market went up 18% and your portfolio only returned 8.7% IRR — you underperformed by almost £10k of opportunity. Without these metrics, you simply don't know.

🏠 Alternative assets

Other apps track the easy 20%.
Portledger handles everything else.

Stocks are well-served by existing apps. But for most serious investors, a significant portion of their net worth is in property, private companies, PE funds, collectibles — assets that are complex, illiquid, and completely ignored by generic trackers.

😐

Generic trackers — Real Estate

Manual value entry only — no derived metrics
No mortgage tracking — no LTV, no equity view
No rental income or expense logging
No IRR or cash-on-cash return calculation
Can't model a capital improvement's ROI
Property sits in a generic 'other assets' bucket
🏠

Portledger — Real Estate

Full mortgage amortisation schedule — monthly payment tracker
Live LTV, equity position, and mortgage outstanding
Rental income and operating expense log with cash-on-cash return
IRR calculated across the full hold: deposit + costs + income + equity
Capital improvement modelling — what does a loft conversion add?
Multiple properties — aggregate NAV, gross yield, net yield
😐

Generic trackers — Private Equity & Angel

Treated as a static 'other asset' entry
No capital call tracking or unfunded commitment
No MOIC, DPI, or TVPI calculated
No J-curve visualisation
SEIS/EIS relief not tracked
Convertible notes and SAFEs unsupported
🔒

Portledger — Private Equity & Angel

Capital call log with unfunded commitment forecast by quarter
MOIC, DPI, TVPI, and IRR per fund and per investment
J-curve chart — visualise the negative early years and expected exit
PE timeline swimlane across all your private holdings
SEIS/EIS tag with relief status and CGT exemption clock
Convertible note lifecycle: accrual → conversion → equity
😐

Generic trackers — Collectibles

Not supported — manually added as 'custom asset'
No provenance or condition fields
No CGT calculation on disposal
No revaluation history
Lumped with cash or 'other' in portfolio breakdown
🎨

Portledger — Collectibles

Dedicated collectibles class: art, watches, wine, whisky, cars
Provenance, condition, and storage notes per item

Disposal flow with CGT calculation included
Shown correctly in portfolio breakdown alongside other assets

💬 But wait…

Common objections, answered honestly

I only hold stocks. Do I even need this?+

If stocks are your only asset class, a dedicated stock tracker might be sufficient for day-to-day tracking. But Portledger still gives you IRR, TWR, and proper HMRC cost-basis rules that most stock apps get wrong. And the moment you buy a property, start angel investing, or hold crypto — your current app will fall apart.

Isn't IRR/TWR too complicated for personal use?+

It's only complicated if you have to calculate it yourself. Portledger does it automatically. You just see the number. Once you've seen your real IRR, you won't want to go back to the misleading 'total value change' that most apps show.

I use a spreadsheet. Why change?+

Spreadsheets break when you add a new asset class, change cost-basis method, or try to apply HMRC share-matching rules. They have no automatic price updates, no AI to parse your statements, and no audit trail. Portledger gives you all of that without the maintenance overhead.

What if I want to go back to my old app?+

Your data is always exportable as CSV. There's no lock-in. But most users find the comparison goes one way: once you've seen your real IRR across all your assets, a stock balance chart stops being enough.
